Hiya my babies,
I am sad to report that I unfortunately have writer’s block. Perhaps because I am deeply involved in work (G by Guess, Men’s + YC Denim Assistant Designer) or because I am entirely devoted to J.J. Abrams’ “Felicity” all over again… whatever it is please know that I have not forgotten about you..
Momma misses you..
One thing is obviously clear when looking at the fashion from the Coachella Music + Arts Festival every year and that is that it’s H O T + everyone is pretty much fashion-less or in other words in various states of undress! There is no way to escape it. Even here in Los Angeles where it was blistering hot this year- not even lounging at home in skivvies was going to bring you comfort. So imagine the the Palm Desert where Indio is.. WOWZA it gets as hot as holy hell down there and I don’t blame anyone for wanting to be naked. So with that being said let’s review what the brave heat enduring souls of Coachella-ella-ella where wearing while trying to wear nothing at all. These are the trends that you’ll probably see till summer 2012.
1. The Return of the Cut-Off Short:
Yes the cut-off short has been around since the dawn of time but how come recently it’s not just for white trash mullet wearing men, Daisy Duke, or Britney Spears + her cowboy hat? Maybe because it is 2 0 1 1 + we are a culture that is SEXIER than ever with pop icons that walk out of their NYC apartments in nothing but an oversized leather jacket + underwear. Could it also be because with the temperature going more + more off the charts with global warming our mother’s shorts are no longer short enough? I think we’d all agree to all of the above. What do you think about the cut-off short? Do you think it’s too daring or maybe you don’t like seeing a girl’s butt cheek hanging out of her pant leg? Do you like the latest trend of cut-offs that have the long exposed front pockets? Or do you think that’s been done + you’re ready to move on?
W H A T A B O U T B E D A Z Z L E D E X P O S E D P O C K E T S ? ? ? Those are TOO DIE FOR!
The men of Coachella too were right on trend with their version of the cutt-off- but did they pull it off? I think that Penn Badgley did a pretty good job here————————————————————>
He even makes coconut juice + a faded cap look good.
In case you’re feeling a little like you can’t pull off this look I’ll give you a hand so here is the secret of the cut-off jean.. YOU’RE GOING TO WANT TO STICK TO A SIMPLE WASH. Maybe a light to medium indigo. Nothing with a heavy rinse or too black. I’d go with something vintage looking/faded. Don’t get too kitschy and get something overly hippie with patchwork because that can look too costumey + dated. OR you can go the novelty way and get a rare color like a pastel pink, an animal print or get a pair with some kind of embellishment- be it distress, chains, studs or rhinestones. BUT the most important thing when wearing cut-offs is to stray away from fabrics that make you look more bum than glam.. example, you don’t want to wear Victoria Secret sweat pant daisy dukes. Remember that denim is already trés casual so you don’t to over do the casual aspect of your outfit with an EVEN MORE casual fabric.
2. Camis+ Rompers Avoid the Classic Farmer’s Tan:
It’s undeniable that with the heat some girls perhaps not feel as comfortable showing off their bodies like other girls. Maybe they have certain religious/moral beliefs, body issues or they simply didn’t want to burn their belly’s with the scorching sun. Whatever the reason camisoles were a great way to stay cool and avoid a farmer’s tan for any girl. Yes, with camis you still get tan lines but they’re easier to even out the weekend after Coachella at the beach + camis are great as a layering piece. During the day you can wear it alone, with a tee underneath or wear multiple camis at a time. Then at night you can put on a flowy sweater or a hoodie + you’ll be ready to front the cold while still looking fresh. Remember that camis come in an array of fabrics + prints you can dress them up or down your choice. If you wish to dress them down for normal day to day wear select a cute graphic cami like Beyonce did ——————————————-> Forever 21, H&M + G by Guess are famously known to have simple/girly/cute camis/graphic tees. If you opt to dress up your cami I suggest that you keep it simple with an animal print or solid color but never in a cotton knit fabric. Because this garment is already so plain I’d try to dress it up by wearing an elegant looking fabric such as chiffon or a flowy poly blend. Another option you have is the romper. Now maybe not all of you know what a romper is so let me break it down for you. A romper is a top [any kind] attached at the waist to a pair of shorts. TONS of rompers were seen at Coachella this past weekend. I’m sure that with the prices of the 3-day pass + camping grounds many attendees were a little strapped for $$$ so the romper was a wise economical outfit choice. With one purchase you have a whole outfit instead of having to buy various pieces. Check out this look created by ♥Mayra♥ at polyvore.com
If you do choose to go the romper route this spring/summer you’ll have extra mula to send on shoes + accessories + what girl wouldn’t want to do that? N O N E ! ! ! The cute thing about rompers is that you can wear them 1 of 2 ways. 1. Alone with sexy bare legs or 2. With some kind of leggings/stockings/tights. Both of these looks can be very glam it just depends on which you like the best or what the weather calls for.
3. Head Gear:
No Duh with the heat the kids at Coachella were into some S E R I O U S head gear, seriously. Slouched JLo hats, straw fedoras + caps galore but the one head piece that ruled the land was the “Spirit Animal Hood.” + this piece WAS + IS my FAAAAAVOOOOOOORRRRRRRRITE of the whole glorious weekend I WISH I WERE WEARING ONE NOW AS I WRITE THIS FOR YOU ALL. The great thing about some of these spirit hoods as you can see above is that they come with built in mittens. Since Coachella was in the desert it can get very cold at night and this hood was not only fun to wear but also functional. I know, I know you’re going crazy over these too so I’ll throw you a bone… Here is the website for these delicious head scarves http://spirithoods.com/ go pick your animal + rock it out!
4. These Boots Were Meant for Moshing:
I never understood WHY cowboy boots have always been so trendy or why everyone loves them so much. Maybe it’s a southern thing but as a native Los Angelino I just figured it was a trend that would go away. But year after year you see girls in shorts + dresses pairing their summer outfits with cowboy boots + this year was no different. Daisy Duke was reborn in many girls at Coachella. At least this time around I saw the point of the cowboy boots. These boots are sturdy enough to protect from the harshest conditions. From being stepped on by the 300 pound over zealous Empire of the Sun fan who decided to take some acid before their set and now has no idea he’s crushing your toes when you’re 2 feet away from the lead singer + you refuse to move- to protecting your feet from the mud pits your best guy friend oh so kiddingly pushed you into because he has a secret crush on you but is too scared to tell you so this is probably the only action he’s going to get unless you both get drunk + high during the day + can’t remember how you made it back to your tent the next morning when you realize you only have your underwear + your spirit hood on. BASICALLY these boots were every girl’s secret weapon + if someone decided to get too rowdy well all she had to do was stick her pointy boot up someone’s nose + continue fist pumpin’ through the crowd. However D O N ‘ T F R E T if you’re not into cowboys like myself. Many other types of boots were at attendance this past weekend, boots such as ankle booties as worn by Kate Bosworth, Knee High leather boots + Moto boots [which are my personal fav out of the whole bunch]… see images for boots below…
5. Color of the Season:
The last trend that I leave you with my kittens is the “IT” color for summer… I believe that the location of Coachella it’s self inspired this one. That’s right you guess right! The H O T color to sport will be RUSSET BROWN! Yes, sometimes brown is a “difficult” color to wear but think of it this way you don’t always have to wear it directly. The thing about “it” colors is that they are manufactured in almost everything. So go to your local mall and find a russet brown satchel or boots or find a garment with russet brown buttons. Anything you find will be ON TREND + that’s pretty much your goal [well if your an avid reader of BITEbritt it is].
Now you know what all your friends were wearing at the greatest music + art festival on Earth + what will most likely creep up in your local shopping watering hole!
Let’s see what everyone cooks up next year.. hey maybe next year even I will able to go.
WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE COLOR BLACK?
It’s so monochromatic
You just have to HAVE IT
An Ode to black
A color that never fades back
Year around it’s ALWAYS in season
And baby doll you know you wear it for any little reason
Have you noticed what the color black can do to a person?
ONE color can evoke glamour, fear, sadness, sexiness, mystery, DRAMA! How can a single color do this? How can ONE color mean so many things while an other color can mean only one? Think about the color white for example… white can mean angelic, purity, wholesomeness, youth, cleanliness, perfection- but really aren’t all the words I used just synonyms? They all mean something GOOD. Black on the other hand is a dramatic color much like his sister color red, many emotions can come from it.
Are you wondering why I am so entranced by black today?
Well lately I’ve been having the mean reds. I’ve been upset and depressed and just all over the place. My emotions have been so up and down. So last Friday I thought I needed a little pick me up. A little retail therapy. While shopping I found some items I liked and eventually purchased. It wasn’t till now (5 days later) that I realized that all of my garments matched my mood. I bought a tank, skinny cargo pants, and a shift dress- ALL IN BLACK. I was so depressed when I bought them that I didn’t even notice that my clothing was looking a bit depressed too. However yesterday I received a pleasant phone call that turned my week right around. My agent called and said that he booked me an audition. He told me to dress cute- you know wear something that is flattering to my body and fits my personality. I started thinking.. what could that be? What could I possibly wear?? I started to mentally go through my closet. I flung open my closet doors. I took my finger and went through every hanger. I started to panic.. I started to grab garments and throw them on the floor. NOTHING looked right. Looking around I noticed that my hallway was starting to look a little scary. I had created a mess! Thankfully, this was all in my imagination so cleaning up was as simple as thinking an other thought. But I put away the thought anyway. I would come up with the perfect outfit later. THEN! it hit me. BLACK!! I would wear my new black tank and a black skirt that everyone loves. But wait, wasn’t I just depressed? Wasn’t black my emo goth color? Now black is my confident look at me I look 10 pounds lighter color? EXACTLY. That’s my point exactly! But you biters are so smart I’m sure you already knew that. Does any color make you feel this way?
Below are a few of my favorite things that come in black… Maybe your closet/wallet will get inspired and treat you to some new threads…
Keep dreaming in noir baby, it’ll make you feel better.
Ps. I hope you know that I purposely just gave you the recipe for a sick vicious outfit–> I hope you noticed.
This post is dedicated to ALL my bird friends. YOU INSPIRE ME EVEN WHEN I FEEL THERE IS NOTHING INSPIRATIONAL LEFT.
I love you all.
Biters have you been feeling blue??
Well if you have so have the Spring 2011 runways. Blue is a hot color for this spring or should I say cool? Blue was crawling all over the runways from Sailor inspired trousers to jeans to suits to coats. Everyone is gonna be digging this in the next few months. Here are some of my top picks for the color blue. Hope you enjoy! Get inspired. BE BLUE!
Bite me- XOXO,
Hi my Baby Biters,
Britt Here. I know I have been a bad mother and neglected you all. But the thing is that if you really were my babies I KNOW that I’d be a great mom. I’d stay up with you at night if you were restless or get up early if you were hungry. I’d sing Guns N Roses: Sweet Child O Mine and play my La Vie en Rose music box for you if you were sleepy. But the fact is that I only have you my biters and I do love you but I do have baby envy.
As if I were Kim Kardashian and I were itchin’ to steal my sisters baby (Not really Kim- don’t kill me. This is just for Haha’s). This week I started getting suspicious about my lady parts. I was doing things there were unexpected, things that were making me the nervous. So I quickly took out my handy dandy google and started searching my symptoms. After doing so I still wasn’t satisfied with what I had found online so I took out my birth control pamphlet. I knew there had to be something about my symptoms in there, I opened up the dang thing and there my symptoms were in black in white. Nausea, changes in appetite, SPOTTING. I was sad yet relieved. My dreams of tiny baby clothes and exaggerated baby names floated away like an interrupted daydream. Then again my worries of rent and bills and car payments came rushing back to me. My husband would kill me if I were pregnant. He’d kill me then rejoice. Luckily for me, I have many friends with beautiful babies. Babies I can borrow, babies I can spoil, babies I can LOVE. BABIES I CAN SHOP FOR!!!
With that said, I wanted to share with you the talents of one of my very best friends- Lauren Coria-Avila. She is one of my baby momma friends with a heart of gold and hands of platinum! Her and her mom Melissa create one of a kind vintage inspired baby garments. They are nothing less than darling. You won’t find anything like it anywhere. Their line is called Le Coria Bebe and you can learn all about it at http://www.lecoria.net or LIKE their page on facebook http://www.facebook.com/pages/Le-Coria-Bebe/166395030068548
Here Mon petite pixie Lauren blogs about her latest designs and even has tutorials for zinky things such as “tuxedo center pieces” you should definitely check it out!! And of course do what you do best… BITE IT!! Below I have added images of her work, like my favorites: bib with feathered rosettes, Marie Antoinette bib and her Navy Linen Romper. I hope you love her designs as much as I do.
So if you have rug-rats of your own please think of my lady love Lauren!! Couture satisfaction guaranteed!

Hello my baby biters,
Today I will show you how to do something nice for a complete stranger- because random acts of kindness make the world go ’round.
While on twitter today (@BITEbritt) I noticed that Natalie Pack ([@nataliepack]of ANTM fame) was asking which blogging service to use as she wants to start her own blog. So of course because I lalalalove wordpress I immediately suggested it.
Two hours later here I am writing her a tutorial on how to start bloggin.
Ok Natalie you’re gonna have to WordPress.com and sign up. Select a clever/cute/whatever name for your blog. Make sure you love the name you select because you won’t be able to change it later (at least I don’t think). The name you choose will be your website ie: NataliePack.wordpress.com. WordPress will then ask you to activate your account. So go to you email and activate your new blog. Once this is done I’m sure you’ll want to add some jazz to your new page.
Go to your Dashboard which is located at the top of the wordpress site. Click on this. When you see your dashboard you will see that there is some basic information here. There is your left side panel which has your editing tools. The center of the page you will see what is happening right now which is your basic blog info. In the column you will find the…
# of posts
# of pages
# of categorties
# of tags (tag as much as you can so your blog can get more hits)
# of comments
Incoming links- shows which websites are referring back to your blog
On the right side of the page you will see
Quick Press- for a quick post. A simple line or two, if you’re on the go.
Most Active (the past day)
I know I’m probably boring you so let’s get to the fun stuff…let’s talk about layouts for your blog. While you’re viewing your dashboard you can go to the left panel- scroll down till you see a tab called “Appearance” at this tab you will see a link called “themes”. Click on this link. This will take you to a page that is divided into two sections: “Manage Themes” and “Browse Themes”
To select your theme you will have to go the browse theme section. To view the free themes wordpress you can view them randomly, alphabetically, popular, or just added- just click on the categories provided. Once you have done this you can preview or active the theme you think you like and will work for your blog. I suggest that you preview then activate because a lot of these themes seem like a good idea but once they’re there on your page you might change your mind and have to go back and browse (here is a link for more themes http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/commercial/).
Once you have selected your theme you will probably want to add your twitter account and other extras. To do this go back to your themes page and click on widgets which is located under your manage themes header. You can also get to your widgets page by going to your dashboard and clicking on the widgets link underneath the themes link on the left side panel. Here on your widgets page you can select the extras you wish to add to your blog. These widgets will be located on the side panels of your blog layout. The widgets are highlighted in grey. Once you’ve found one you like simple click and drag it over to your right hand side to where it says “sidebar”. When you have successfully added your widget to your sidebar click on the down arrow on the right hand side and enter all th required information to active your widget. Please note that if the wrong information is imputed the widget will not work on your blog. This might require some trial and error.
Now that you have this all done you are now ready to start blogging!
Go back to your dashboard and click on “New Post” which is located at the tippy top of the page. When you start a new post you will be asked to give your post a title. From this title WordPress will generate a permalink for you. This permalink can be edited any time before publish your post. Make sure to tag your post with various words that describe your post to make sure you get tons of hits. When you think you’re done you may click on the preview button on the right side of the page OR if you’re sure you do not need to make any changes at this time click on “publish” and you’re DONE! And if you have to do some correcting don’t fret! You can edit at any time! Simply go to your blog and click on edit. Or while on your dashboard go to the left panel then click on post- this will take you to every post you’ve ever written- here you can edit.
If you need more help setting up your WordPress blog click on this youtube link *warning: the man in this tutorial is extremely boring* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWYi4_COZMU and if you find out that you really don’t like WordPress here is a tutorial on how to set up a blogger account http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryb4VPSmKuo&feature=channel *same boring guy*
