Trends: Our Friends are Coming Home with us From Coachella

April 19, 2011 2 comments

One thing is obviously clear when looking at the fashion from the Coachella Music + Arts Festival every year and that is that it’s H O T + everyone is pretty much fashion-less or in other words in various states of undress! There is no way to escape it. Even here in Los Angeles where it was blistering hot this year- not even lounging at home in skivvies was going to bring you comfort. So imagine the the Palm Desert where Indio is.. WOWZA it gets as hot as holy hell down there and I don’t blame anyone for wanting to be naked. So with that being said let’s review what the brave heat enduring souls of Coachella-ella-ella where wearing while trying to wear nothing at all. These are the trends that you’ll probably see till summer 2012.

 1. The Return of the Cut-Off Short:
Yes the cut-off short has been around since the dawn of time but how come recently it’s not just for white trash mullet wearing men, Daisy Duke, or Britney Spears + her cowboy hat? Maybe because it is 2 0 1 1 + we are a culture that is SEXIER than ever with pop icons that walk out of their NYC apartments in nothing but an oversized leather jacket + underwear. Could it also be because with the temperature going more + more off the charts with global warming our mother’s shorts are no longer short enough? I think we’d all agree to all of the above. What do you think about the cut-off short? Do you think it’s too daring or maybe you don’t like seeing a girl’s butt cheek hanging out of her pant leg? Do you like the latest trend of cut-offs that have the long exposed front pockets? Or do you think that’s been done + you’re ready to move on?
W H A T  A B O U T  B E D A Z Z L E D  E X P O S E D  P O C K E T S ? ? ? Those are TOO DIE FOR!
The men of Coachella too were right on trend with their version of the cutt-off- but did they pull it off? I think that Penn Badgley did a pretty good job here————————————————————>
He even makes coconut juice + a faded cap look good.
In case you’re feeling a little like you can’t pull off this look I’ll give you a hand so here is the secret of the cut-off jean.. YOU’RE GOING TO WANT TO STICK TO A SIMPLE WASH. Maybe a light to medium indigo. Nothing with a heavy rinse or too black. I’d go with something vintage looking/faded. Don’t get too kitschy and get something overly hippie with patchwork because that can look too costumey + dated. OR you can go the novelty way and get a rare color like a pastel pink, an animal print or get a pair with some kind of embellishment- be it distress, chains, studs or rhinestones. BUT the most important thing when wearing cut-offs is to stray away from fabrics that make you look more bum than glam.. example, you don’t want to wear Victoria Secret sweat pant daisy dukes. Remember that denim is already trés casual so you don’t to over do the casual aspect of your outfit with an EVEN MORE casual fabric.

2. Camis+ Rompers Avoid the Classic Farmer’s Tan:
It’s undeniable that with the heat some girls perhaps not feel as comfortable showing off their bodies like other girls. Maybe they have certain religious/moral beliefs, body issues or  they simply didn’t want to burn their belly’s with the scorching sun. Whatever the reason camisoles were a great way to stay cool and avoid a farmer’s tan for any girl. Yes, with camis you still get tan lines but they’re easier to even out the weekend after Coachella at the beach + camis are great as a layering piece. During the day you can wear it alone, with a tee underneath or wear multiple  camis at a time. Then at night you can put on a flowy  sweater or a hoodie + you’ll be ready to front the cold while still looking fresh. Remember that camis come in an array of fabrics + prints you can dress them up or down your choice. If you wish to dress them down for normal day to day wear select a cute graphic cami like Beyonce did ——————————————-> Forever 21, H&M + G by Guess are famously known to have simple/girly/cute camis/graphic tees. If you opt to dress up your cami I suggest that you keep it simple  with an animal print or solid color but never in a cotton knit fabric. Because this garment is already so plain I’d try to dress it up by wearing an elegant looking fabric such as chiffon or a flowy poly blend. Another option you have is the romper. Now maybe not all of you know what a romper is so let me break it down for you. A romper is a top [any kind] attached at the waist to a pair of shorts. TONS of rompers were seen at Coachella this past weekend. I’m sure that with the prices of the 3-day pass + camping grounds many attendees were a little strapped for $$$ so the romper was a wise economical outfit choice. With one purchase you have a whole outfit instead of having to buy various pieces. Check out this look created by ♥Mayra♥ at polyvore.com
If you do choose to go the romper route this spring/summer you’ll have extra mula to send on shoes + accessories + what girl wouldn’t want to do that? N O N E ! ! ! The cute thing about rompers is that you can wear them 1 of 2 ways. 1. Alone with sexy bare legs or 2. With some kind of leggings/stockings/tights. Both of these looks can be very glam it just depends on which you like the best or what the weather calls for.

3. Head Gear:
No Duh with the heat the kids at Coachella were into some S E R I O U S head gear, seriously. Slouched JLo hats, straw fedoras + caps galore but the one head piece that ruled the land was the “Spirit Animal Hood.”  + this piece WAS + IS my FAAAAAVOOOOOOORRRRRRRRITE of the whole glorious weekend I WISH I WERE WEARING ONE NOW AS I WRITE THIS FOR YOU ALL. The great thing about some of these spirit hoods as you can see above is that they come with built in mittens. Since Coachella was in the desert it can get very cold at night and this hood was not only fun to wear but also functional. I know, I know you’re going crazy over these too so I’ll throw you a bone… Here is the website for these delicious head scarves http://spirithoods.com/ go pick your animal + rock it out!

 4. These Boots Were Meant for Moshing:
I never understood WHY cowboy boots have always been so trendy or why everyone loves them so much. Maybe it’s a southern thing but as a native Los Angelino I just figured it was a trend that would go away. But year after year you see girls in shorts + dresses pairing their summer outfits with cowboy boots + this year was no different. Daisy Duke was reborn in many girls at Coachella. At least this time around I saw the point of the cowboy boots. These boots are sturdy enough to protect from the harshest conditions. From being stepped on by the 300 pound over zealous Empire of the Sun fan who decided to take some acid before their set and now has no idea he’s crushing your toes when you’re 2 feet away from the lead singer + you refuse to move- to protecting your feet from the mud pits your best guy friend oh so kiddingly pushed you into because he has a secret crush on you but is too scared to tell you so this is probably the only action he’s going to get unless you both get drunk + high during the day + can’t remember how you made it back to your tent the next morning when you realize you only have your underwear + your spirit hood on. BASICALLY these boots were every girl’s secret weapon + if someone decided to get too rowdy well all she had to do was stick her pointy boot up someone’s nose + continue fist pumpin’ through the crowd. However D O N ‘ T  F R E T if you’re not into cowboys like myself. Many other types of boots were at attendance this past weekend, boots such as ankle booties as worn by Kate Bosworth, Knee High leather boots + Moto boots [which are my personal fav out of the whole bunch]… see images for boots below…

5. Color of the Season:
The last trend that I leave you with my kittens is the “IT” color for summer… I believe that the location of Coachella it’s self inspired this one. That’s right you guess right! The H O T color to sport will be RUSSET BROWN! Yes, sometimes brown is a “difficult” color to wear but think of it this way you don’t always have to wear it directly. The thing about “it” colors is that they are manufactured in almost everything. So go to your local mall and find a russet brown satchel or boots or find a garment with russet brown buttons. Anything you find will be ON TREND + that’s pretty much your goal [well if your an avid reader of BITEbritt it is].

Now you know what all your friends were wearing at the greatest music + art festival on Earth + what will most likely creep up in your local shopping watering hole!

Let’s see what everyone cooks up next year.. hey maybe next year even I will able to go.

And as I bid you adieu I leave you with my very own Polyvore creation for what I would’ve worn if I would’ve gone to Coachella this year.. I hope you enjoy and continue to BITEbritt. xoxo.

HI BABY BITERS! Long time no blog!

April 21, 2010 7 comments

Hello my baby biters!

How I’ve missed you all! As you know I have been away. So many things have happened since we last spoke. I bought my first car (Mazda3 Hatch in Pearl White- I call  her ZumGAGA), I got a Facebook account (the real reason I haven’t been blogging), and I got a NEW job. I am now ASSISTANT DESIGNER at an active wear company called FAMBRANDS/MARIKA. That’s right I will no longer be answering the phones sorting samples and opening the door for people! I’m moving on up! AND!! Art’s sister asked me to help style a photoshoot she’s producing for her makeup line “Sassy Makeup” by Silvia O. I couldn’t be more thrilled!! Styling is one of those jobs I have dreamed and dreamed about. if one day I could become Rachel Zoe I would DIE! Too bad I don’t have a cool enough name…. anyway… lol.

It’s all very exciting. My life is going in so many different directions very quickly. It’s thrilling, scary, nerve wrecking and tiring. I can’t keep up with it all. But more importantly… I have made new friends that are keeping me busy. Just to show you that life does go on. I once thought I was the biggest loser with some stellar fashion sense but now I can’t go a few days without friends calling me up. And that fashion sense  I was talking about keeps getting better and better. I have realized in a short period of time how lucky I really am. I have people in my life that love me. I never thought that would happen. I have a wonderful boyfriend that makes me happy everyday and I adore his family and guess what?! they kinda like me too! That’s unheard of! So my suggestion to you is enjoy your life! Now is the time to live and be happy! Bite this if you don’t bite anything else! Be happy! Be YOU!

Ok… on to BITEbritt…

If you haven’t already noticed BITEbritt went through a makeover. In my goal to make everything futuristic looking I have changed the theme of my blog to “monochromatic” I feel it’s a much more clean-looking template, which I like.  If you don’t like it let me know so we can work together to make some changes.

Now time for some of my spring fashion favorites round #1

If you haven’t already noticed this spring is all about looking fresh and clean. The bold and bright of last winter is OUT! Proenza, McQueen, neon snakeskin it’s time to move on! Take a look at some of the images I have compiled to give you a basic idea of what you should be doing this spring…

Almost nude lip with pinch of color, cheeks like a doll and bare eyes. Tres chic mon amie!

A Striped tee can look refreshing. This trend is taking over. Try going for a nautical feel. This tee looks great on everyone. You can't go wrong... Also check out my favorite fashion blogger the Cherry Blossom Girl (Girl in photo)

A khaki jacket in beige or olive can make your outfit complete. This is perfect for spring when you just want to throw something over you tank.

Looks like this Harem Silhouette will not leave. Zara has this option of a Harem Jumper but there are other options if this is too overwhelming. You can go for just harem pants or harem shorts- both options will guarantee you a fab look for spring.

The Harem Silhouette is here to stay! Go with a jumper like the one shown here from Zara or go with something less drastic like a basic harem pant or short. This silhouette will keep you cool during this spring fever!

To look incredibly chic this spring think neutral! The colorless trend is all the rage. With pops of color like red, navy and black you're bound to be one fantastical fashionista!

Clogs! What more can I say? They have made a come back as seen here on the Chanel runway. Find a pair that suits your personality. Clogs can look a bit chunky and dull at times but when you work them into your wardrobe they can punch some life into your outfit. Ps. Make sure you can walk in them before buying. I would hate to think that you bought clogs just so they can sit in your closet.

Going out of business!!

January 4, 2010 Leave a comment

Why do the words and phrases “sale”, “clearance”, “blow out”, “50% off”, “going out of business”, and “everything must go” send women everywhere into a frenzy? I hadn’t thought of this when I agreed to go to the local DSW with my mother and sister.
Jules told me and mom that the DSW in Westwood was going out of business. So of course mom being the bargin shopper she is jumped at the chance of a good deal. I the dummy thought that all shoe department stores were the same. I thought that just because this particular store was closing their doors forever that there would still be rows upon rows upon rows of couture, and designer goods. I thought I would finally be able to purchase L.A.M.B. and Jimmy Choo for 70% off- well like I said I’m a dummy- I thought wrong.
When we got here there were only 2 aisles of my size (6) and the rest of the store was cleared. Within 5 minutes I knew I wasn’t going to like anything or find anything I thought would be worth my time. Of course my sister and my mom thought that lot of things were amazing. I was forced to sit in a little corner watching 2 purses and the merchandise. Uuhhgg!! What torture! I began to fall asleep. Feeling embarassed I willed myself awake and decided to scold everyone for leaving their crap with me. People started asking me if I was going to buy 30 pairs of shoes (literally). I was in agony. I learned my lesson and I hope you learn from my mistakes. When people tell you going out of business, 50% off everything, clearance and everything must go don’t always believe that it’s a good thing. Because believe me it’s NOT! I should’ve stayed home. I should’ve stayed in bed. Nothing good can come out of shopping with your mother and sister. Trust!

This time only don’t bite me.

The Unsure Indie

December 28, 2009 3 comments

Hello All!
I’ve been thinking about style today. Pondering on everyone’s style- wondering which one I classify myself under. Jealous of the hipsters because you can clearly identify them (drat). After texting my high school BFF (Kathy Kay AKA KKAJ) we discovered that we are the unsure indies. We wore what we wanted we listened to whatever music we liked even if it wasn’t mainsream had few political views and were/are passionate about art. Still we won’t fully admit we are indie. Does that prove our status? Do we live by the rule- if you’re indie never say you’re indie?? Important questions… lol.

Pamper yourself- no I don’t mean diapers

December 23, 2009 Leave a comment

My sweet nibblers,

Do you ever wish you could do something about your face?! Well there’s nothing you can do about what your momma gave you but you can do something to make it look better than it already does 😉

Ever want a massage or a facial or an all around relaxing day of pampering?? Well I got just the thing for you!! My wonderfully sweet and talented sister owns a spa in Old Town Torrace!

 It is called TresJulie!!

I guarantee you that you will not regret going to…

TRESJULIE DAY SPA
1327 Post Avenue, Siute G
Torrance, California 90501

My lovely sister and mother own the place and they are the nicest people you will ever meet! (I’m the mean one in the family). When you make your appointment you will see how nice they really are. They even throw in extra treatments for free! (shhh.. they usually don’t tell you that they give you extra care- they just do it without you noticing). If you don’t believe me look at these reviews posted on Spafinder.com

“The spa is run by its owner Julie and she is one of a kind. You will love your treatment and you will wanna go for more. So, go and enjoy a nice day. You deserve it!”

“This us such a great spa. I’ve been to some higher end spas, but this definitely takes the cake. The owner is experienced and it is obvious she cares for her clients and the treatment she is giving. She communicdates to educate you while she is giving you a treatment. I liked it so much, I book all my treatments for 1 day. Facial, Massage, Leg/Arm/Arm Pit Waxing, Manicure, Pedicure. It was the best pampering experience I could have given myself.”

“The owener, Julie, she is the best one I’ve ever met. When you need any help, she’s always there for you.”

“I have been to many spas in the greater LA area (including the Southbay) and have never had such a pleasant all round experience. The spa’s atmosphere is relaxing and luxurious that you can forget about the rest of the world for a few moments (at least for an hour or so.) The treatment was tailored to my needs and result oriented. The staff was also very inviting and willing to pamper me.”

“The owner Julie is sweet and accomodating. Very knowledgable as she understudies from a local European master skin care technician. The product line is one of the best in the field. Individual attention here is the rule…Check in for ninety minutes of bliss plus results!!”

SEE! I told you so!!!
So when you go make your appointment mention Bitebritt and then report back and tell me all about your experience!

Pamper yourself!
Bite me.

Bring back the 90s and “HEROIN CHIC” while you’re at it!

December 21, 2009 Leave a comment

Fashion will go one step further. It’ll be more than heroin chic. It will OD. FASHION SUICIDE….

Oh if those words were true. Too bad they were only in a bubbly Jennifer Gardner movie- 13 going on 30.

I miss the 90s and I feel like I am the only one. I miss Kate Moss on the runway- before she had too much money to decide that she doesn’t like to walk the runway. And I miss James King looking strung out in every fashion campaign. Please see photo….

I miss 90s rock.

Where’s Jane’s Addiction? Where is the classic Red Hot Chili Peppers? Where is the anti attitude? Anti happiness? Anti 80s excess? Where are the singer songwriters of the 90s that would rock out the Lilith fair? Nine Inch Nails  isn’t even touring anymore- I mean c’mon people! The 2000s are so LAME!!! With the rise of horrible teeny bopper bands such as Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, the “Jo Bros” and Miley Cyrus there isn’t much to live for musically anymore.

Music used to mean something other than money. It used to express emotions other greed and mindlessness. People used to get high and actually think! Can you believe that? There used to be people in the world that had drug addictions that would willingly escape reality only to come up with some of the best lyrics some of the best thoughts- ideas on the face of the earth. Not that I’m supporting drug use, addiction or experimenting with any of those. What I am trying to say that it’s sad that now a days “musicians” can’t come up with decent lyrics. They can’t create magic or that feeling people used to get by listening to a really great song. No one gets goosebumps anymore by just listening to that one song on the radio. Today kids go “OMG that’s the jam! That’s my song!” But really what are these songs saying? That we should put our hands in the air- oh my bad it’s not even “AIR” anymore it’s “Ayer” like we just don’t “Cayer”. How more idiotic can this country be?? Am I the only one that is disappointed in the direction today’s culture is heading and/or has already gone? *sigh*

Bite me- Literally.
